Hector McDonnell: Istanbul's Light
“I have never been in this room, yet somehow I feel I know it.” From misty Bosphorus mornings to intimate interiors of the Historic Peninsula, a meditation on light and lived memory.
A solo exhibition of oil paintings and etchings by acclaimed Northern Irish painter Hector McDonnell, created across four years of immersive visits to Istanbul and capturing the luminous atmosphere of the Historic Peninsula, Bosphorus ferries, artisan workshops, and cosmopolitan street life. The exhibition catalogue features a foreword by Grant Ford, former Head of 19th-Century European Art at Sotheby's and BBC Antiques Roadshow specialist.

Ci Demi: Something is Amiss
“I take photographs imagining I am shooting a horror film, pursuing an invisible tension beneath the shifting surface of the city.” (Ci Demi)
Presented by Şule Gazioğlu Gallery in the Discovery section of Photo London 2026 at Olympia, London (The National Hall, Stand J23), Ci Demi's solo presentation 'Something is Amiss' investigated the psychogeography of Istanbul through stark monochrome compositions and daylight flash, uncovering the uncanny tensions beneath the city's rapidly shifting urban fabric.

Rooted: The Garden Within
“Nature here is not an external landscape, but a living threshold carrying memory, fragility, and inner equilibrium.” (Şule Gazioğlu)
Bringing together works by Annette Louise Solakoğlu (large-format photography), Işık Güner (scientific botanical illustration), Yunus Karma (kintsugi and living moss sculptures), and Elena Tash (botanical alchemy and textile installations), this curated group exhibition transformed the Emirgan gallery into a contemplative botanical sanctuary.

Annette Louise Solakoğlu: Ode to Istanbul
“Far removed from familiar chaotic scenes: a serene, poetic portrait of Istanbul distilled over twenty years on medium-format analogue film.”
Presented at Photo London 2025 at Somerset House, London, Annette Louise Solakoğlu's 'Ode to Istanbul' series pairs medium-format analogue portraits of Istanbul's vanishing artisans with timeless studies of Bosphorus landmarks from the Hamidiye Fountain to the Maiden's Tower.

Prinkipo Mon Amour: Annette Louise Solakoğlu, Ahmet Abut Collection & Esra Oğuz
“Time moves slowly here; life keeps pace with the gently lapping waters of the Marmara Sea.” Born from a curatorial commission and beloved ever since September 2024 in the atrium of the Splendid Palace Hotel.
Şule Gazioğlu was commissioned to curate an exhibition in the atrium of the historic 1908 Splendid Palace Hotel on Büyükada. Carrying out the creative direction of creating that space, she commissioned artist Esra Oğuz to make a site-specific fabric installation ('Stripes') across the wide space above the atrium, pairing 1880–1930 Büyükada archival photographs from the Ahmet Abut Collection with Annette Louise Solakoğlu’s 'Prinkipo' photographic series, which encompasses photographs of Büyükada, the historic Splendid Palace Hotel, and the famed author Leon Trotsky’s house. What began as an exhibition commission became beloved by the hotel, its guests, and visiting collectors; the installation and spatial setting Şule Gazioğlu created have remained in place since September 2024 and continue there today.

Monica Fritz: Out of Place

Accompanied by a critical essay by architectural historian Prof. Paolo Girardelli (Boğaziçi University), Swiss-Italian photographer Monica Fritz's 'Out of Place' brings together photographs captured across Sicily, India, Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, New York, London, and Milan. Eschewing superficial exoticism and the picturesque, Fritz reveals the quiet mystery within the ordinary and the unexpected familiarity of distant worlds.

Lütfiye Kösten: From the Past & 2021 Inaugural Emirgan Season
“Beyond time and place: pictographic, contemplative portraits that meet the viewer’s gaze with quiet intensity.”
Marking the inaugural 2021–2022 exhibition season of Şule Gazioğlu Gallery following its founding in Emirgan in 2021, highlighted by Lütfiye Kösten’s solo exhibition 'From the Past' in Spring 2022. Kösten’s figurative canvases pair graphic linearity and pictographic color fields with piercing gazes that interrogate memory, identity, and timeless presence.
